What Is A Fast Mph On A Bike?

The table below provides a breakdown of average cycling speeds for various levels of cyclists, measured in miles per hour (mph) and kilometers per hour (km/h) for a one-hour ride:

  • Beginner Cyclist: 8 – 12 mph (13 – 19 km/h)
  • Intermediate Cyclist: 12 – 16 mph (19 – 26 km/h)
  • Advanced Cyclist: 16 – 24 mph (26 – 39 km/h)
  • Professional Cyclist: >24 mph (>39 km/h)

These speed ranges serve as a general guideline to gauge the performance of cyclists at different skill levels. Keep in mind that individual capabilities and factors such as terrain, weather conditions, and equipment can influence actual speeds achieved during a ride. For instance, a professional cyclist, who has undergone rigorous training and possesses top-tier equipment, can sustain speeds exceeding 24 mph. It’s important for cyclists to train and progress at a pace that aligns with their personal goals and capabilities.

Can A Bike Go 40 Mph?

Certainly! Here is the revised paragraph:

“High-quality mountain bikes are designed to handle speeds exceeding 40 miles per hour (64 kilometers per hour), particularly when riding down steep hills. However, if you plan on consistently reaching and maintaining these high speeds, it’s advisable to upgrade your bike’s brakes to ensure safety and control. This information was highlighted on October 19, 2018.”

This revised paragraph provides a clearer explanation of the topic, including the specific speed, the context in which it applies (riding down hills), and the recommendation to upgrade brakes for safety.

The 30 mph Aero Challenge – How Fast Can Ollie Go?

30mph is a fast speed for a bike. It can definitely be achieved with a decent hill on a road but is tough to obtain purely on flat. Below is a Strava speed graph from one of my MTB rides and a ride on a commuter path. Note that on both my max speed was around 25mph.High quality mountain bikes were built to handle speeds over 40 mph because you can easily hit those speeds on hills, though you may want to upgrade your brakes if you’ll be sustaining such speeds. On the other hand, 25 kms an hour is probably fast enough for most people. It’s faster than most can ride up hills. It’s a speed at which you can travel at without having to compete with other cyclists and it’s comparable with what an average cyclist might be able to keep up for an hour over fairly flat terrain.
